About

My name is Ray Bather.

In June 2017 I will be cycling, occasionally accompanied by friends, the length of the British Front in 1917 from St Quentin to the Belgian Coast. I will be visiting 100 Commonwealth Cemeteries as well as German and other nationalities. I will leave a poppy at a grave of one soldier at each and record their names. I will take care to visit all nationalities struck by the tragedy of that war and pay tribute to each of the fallen ones. My first cemetery will contain only one soldier, yet I will also visit the very largest ones. I will also go to Mons where the first and last British Soldiers died.

I will keep a daily record via this blog, of the days events including photographs of each grave that I place a poppy upon and a background of that particular soldier, airman or seaman. He may be Known Unto God, in which case I will detail the battle in which he made the final sacrifice. All money raised will go the Royal British Legion in support of rehabilitation of veterans from recent conflicts. Thank you for your support and please feel free to leave comments and get in touch.
